Recess fitting (shutters fitted inside the architrave)

  1. Measure at the front of the recess: Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom.

  2. Next measure the drop on the right, in the centre and on the left.

  3. Write down the smallest measurements, these are the sizes you need to order your shutters.
There’s no need to make any deductions or allowances yourself — we’ll take care of all the calculations for you to ensure a perfect fit.

How to Measure for Square Set Windows (No Architrave)
A square set window has no architrave, meaning your shutters will be installed around the outside of the window frame. Please follow the steps below to measure accurately — our system will make the necessary adjustments for the frame to fit around your window.

  1. Measure the height (drop): Measure from the bottom to the top of the inside of the window in three different places – left, centre, and right.

  2. Measure the width: Measure from left to right across the inside of the window in three different places – top, middle, and bottom.

  3. Record the largest measurements: For both width and height, compare your three measurements and record the largest of each. These will be used to ensure the best fit.

Measuring for Outside Mount – Window with Architrave
If your window has an architrave, your shutters will typically be installed to cover the entire architrave. This means your measurements should start and finish at the outer edges of the architrave.

Please note: The measurement points may vary slightly depending on the style of your architrave.

To ensure accuracy:

  1. Identify the type of architrave on your window.

  2. Once confirmed, follow the appropriate measuring steps, starting and ending at the outermost edges of the architrave.

Our team will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a seamless, custom fit based on the measurements you provide.

Measuring for Outside Mount – Bullnose Architrave
Measuring for shutters with a bullnose architrave is simple. The shutter frame will be mounted directly onto the flat surface of the architrave, so all measurements should be taken from edge to edge of the architrave.

Follow these steps for accurate measurement:

  1. Measure the drop (height) from the bottom to the top edge of the architrave in three different places – left, centre, and right.

  2. Measure the width from the left to the right edge of the architrave in three different places – top, middle, and bottom.

  3. Compare all three measurements for both width and height, and record the largest measurement in each case.
Our system will use these measurements to create a perfect custom fit for your shutters.

Measuring for Outside Mount – Square Architrave
Measuring for shutters on a window with a square architrave is simple and precise. The shutter frame will be mounted directly onto the flat surface of the architrave, so all measurements should include the full width and height of the architrave.

How to measure:

  1. Measure the drop (height): Measure from the bottom to the top edge of the architrave in three different places – left, centre, and right.

  2. Measure the width: Measure from the left to the right edge of the architrave in three different places – top, middle, and bottom.

  3. Use the largest measurements: For both width and height, compare your three measurements and record the largest of each. These will be used to ensure a perfect fit.

Measuring for Outside Mount – Decorative Architrave
Decorative architraves may feature curves, grooves, or detailing, but they typically have a flat surface on the outer edge suitable for mounting your shutter frame. If this flat edge is present, you can measure as you would for any other outside mount.

How to measure:

  1. Measure the drop (height): Measure from the bottom to the top edge of the architrave in three places – left, centre, and right.

  2. Measure the width: Measure from the left to right edge of the architrave in three places – top, middle, and bottom.

  3. Record the largest measurements: For both width and height, select the largest measurement from each set.
These measurements will ensure your shutters are made to fit accurately over your decorative architrave.

Measuring for Outside Mount – Square Set Window with Sill
For a square set window that includes a sill, your shutters will be installed outside the window frame. In this case, the height measurement should begin at the top of the window sill, not below it.

To ensure a secure and visually balanced fit, our system will automatically add 76mm to the width and 38mm to the height. These adjustments act as an artificial architrave and allow the shutter frame to sit firmly around the window.

How to measure:

  1. Measure the height (drop): From the top of the window sill to the top edge of the window opening, take measurements in three different places – left, centre, and right.

  2. Measure the width: From the left to the right edge of the window opening, measure in three different places – top, middle, and bottom.

  3. Record the largest measurements: Compare your three width and height measurements, and use the largest of each to ensure the best fit.

Measuring for Outside Mount – Window with Sill and Architrave
When measuring for an outside mount on a window that has both a sill and an architrave, your height measurement should begin at the top of the window sill and end at the outer edge of the architrave.

How to measure:

  1. Measure the height (drop): From the top of the window sill to the top edge of the architrave in three different places – left, centre, and right.

  2. Measure the width: From the left to the right edge of the architrave in three different places – top, middle, and bottom.

  3. Use the largest measurements: Compare all three measurements for both height and width, and record the largest in each case. This will ensure the shutters are made to fit perfectly over your window and architrave.
